Call for Afrofuturist Art: Kindred Visions

An orange-toned graphic featuring a close-up, cropped image of a person with dark skin, body paint, and elaborate gold jewelry around their neck and a dramatic red headpiece decorated with rose-like shapes. Large, semi-transparent white text is overlaid on the image, reading "CALL FOR ART."

Fayetteville, N.C. - We're currently seeking artwork for our upcoming exhibit, Kindred Visions.

Curated by Dr. Antoinne Duane Jones, “Kindred Visions” is a celebration of depictions of Afrofuturism in visual art. While all artistic interpretations of Afrofuturism are welcomed, we particularly encourage depictions that include science fiction elements to coincide with a community book reading of Octavia Butler’s seminal Afrofuturist work Kindred occurring during the exhibition.

Statement from the Curator

“The year is 2026 — and the call to share “Kindred Spirits” has never been greater.

As we move forward, it’s vital that we showcase art that not only captures the brilliance of Black creativity today but also reimagines how the world will see us tomorrow. Through bold colors, dynamic shapes, and visionary style, this work transcends time — resonating deeply on every wall it graces. We’re grateful to the Arts Council of Fayetteville for recognizing this moment and championing Afrofuturism as a bridge between culture, creativity, and the future.”
