Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County Opens New Comic Art Exhibit “Paradox of the Observer”

Fayetteville, NC - The Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County is proud to announce the opening of its latest exhibit, Paradox of the Observer: Comics on Art and Community by comic artist and illustrator, Hannah Krieger. On display from July 16 through August 16th, this exhibit uses Hannah’s comics to explore the observer’s paradox, a situation in which the phenomenon of being observed is unknowingly influenced by the presence of an observer.

“It's impossible to separate the observer from the observed because seeing is a form of engagement with the seen,” says Krieger. “Regardless of the artist's intention, the art transforms once it's observed. So in this showcase, I'm using comics to reflect on the different ways we affect one another by seeing and being seen.”

Paradox of the Observer marks the end of Krieger’s six-month tenure as the Arts Council’s Southeastern Artist in Residence. Since January, she has worked on this collection in her studio space within the Arts Center. In addition to completing the work featured in this exhibit, Hannah has welcomed visitors during her open studio hours and taught a free zine-making workshop for the public.

Join the Arts Council in celebrating the opening of this exhibit on Thursday, July 16th at the Art Center.

The event is free and open to the public.
