Reggie Harris is a musician, storyteller, educator and vibrant force in musical, educational and historical circles. Affiliated with the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education program for over two decades, he offers performances for students and an in-depth workshop for educators. Steeped in the tradition of African American spirituals, folk, gospel, rock & the music of civil and human rights, Reggie has a distinguished repertoire of African American music, blending spirituals & freedom songs and stories. Assembly Performance: MUSIC AND THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD MUSIC AND THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD is an exploration of slavery and the quest for freedom presented in story, song, and narratives. The Underground Railroad is one of the most important chapters in American History. This engaging, interactive program about slavery and the quest for freedom reveals the hope, power and eventually, the triumph that was accomplished and shared by a network of multicultural allies. Through song, story and audience involvement, Music & the Underground Railroad provides an understanding of the secrets and passion of this powerful era.
