Celebrating 40 years as a performing arts ensemble, Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble is an internationally recognized, roots-based music and dance company showcasing the cultural diversity of percussive dance. Footworks has a reputation for exceptional performances, bringing the joy and energy of percussive dance and music to audiences worldwide. The ensemble always performs with its own award-winning musicians and offerings include theater productions, festival performances, workshops, arts-integrated school assemblies and residencies, and youth and community outreach programming. All of Footworks programming is a celebration of the cultural diversity found in the United States. Assembly Performance Keeping the Beat: Multicultural Influences in American Music and Dance Footworks shares the power and joy of percussive dance while illuminating the multicultural roots of American music and dance. The program includes live music, American clogging, hamboning, Irish and African dance, call-and-answer songs and more. Students will learn about the diversity and commonality of the people of NC, the U.S., and the world and gain an understanding of music and dance as an essential aspect of history and human experience in an engaging performance with lots of audience participation. Total Fee: $990 / $1320 Assembly Performance Irish Roots and American Branches Performing live Irish music and dance with their descendant American styles, Footworks illuminates the American story of traditions coming from the Old World and meeting others here, resulting in new traditions. Students learn the powerful role the Irish played in the shaping of North Carolinian and American culture. This program is tailored to fit all ages groups and all performances include lots of audience participation (learning songs and dance steps) and a stellar music and dance performance. Total Fee: $990 / $1320 Residency Roots and Rhythm Footworks’ Director and Wolf Trap Certified Teaching Artist, Marsha Searle, teaches traditional music and dance in a fun and accessible way. Students will learn one of a multicultural array of songs and percussive dances that teach students about peoples and cultures including Ireland, Africa, America, Native American, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Japan, and many more.
