Reggie Harris
Reggie Harris is a musician, storyteller, educator and vibrant force in musical, educational and historical circles. Steeped in the tradition of African American spirituals, folk, gospel, rock & the music of civil and human rights, Reggie has a distinguished repertoire of African American music, blending spirituals & freedom songs and stories. As a founding artist in the Kennedy Center’s “Changing Education Through the Arts” program, Reggie is a committed teacher and advocate for lifelong learning. He has been affiliated with the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education program for over two decades, offering performances for students and an in-depth workshop for educators.

MUSIC AND THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD is an exploration of slavery and the quest for freedom presented in story, song, and narratives. The Underground Railroad is one of the most important chapters in American History. This engaging, interactive program about slavery and the quest for freedom reveals the hope, power and eventually, the triumph that was accomplished and shared by a network of multicultural allies. Through song, story and audience involvement, Music and the Underground Railroad provides an understanding of the secrets and passion of this powerful era.
Duration: 45-50 minutes
Grade Level: Elementary School, Middle School, High School
Maximum Number of Students: K-1st: (300-350), 2nd-5th (400); 6th-12th - 600 *Please ask if your number exceeds these guidelines.

Technical Requirements:
- 10' x 10' performance space
- Access to 110 outlet near stage
- access to stage 45 minutes in advance
- Reggie will need one vocal mic with boom stand
- one instrument direct line and two monitors.
- Reggie can provide sound for schools when contracted to do so.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream, but he did not dream alone. This program is an interactive multi-media presentation honoring the artists, poets, educators, inventors, explorers, scientists and other important contributors to the life and culture of America and the world, and who influenced and informed the work of Dr. King. Using stories and music, Reggie highlights how the contributions of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Benjamin Banneker, Satchel Paige and others helped young Martin become a man who added to the fabric of our nation and who changed the world. Grades 5-12
