Residency:Opera is Awesome Adventures
OPERA IS AWESOME is a “learning opera” for children and audiences alike. Utilizing the beautiful music of opera and musical theater, the opera centers around the original idea of teaching the audience about the singer’s vocal apparatus. Dialogue in English with a sprinkling of Italian brings all of the ideas into focus and makes learning about a potentially complicated subject interesting and fun. This romp takes us from CARMEN all the way to Mozart’s THE MAGIC FLUTE and Verdi’s RIGOLETTO. The Opera runs approximately 30 minutes.

Workshop:Your Child's Musical Wish
Children can grow as individuals by working cooperatively with a group to produce a project that they have created. Using theater games and vocal exercises coupled with “hands on” discussions of the conceptualization of all facets of the singing actor, each class would thoroughly explore and analyze the medium of music theatre/ opera. The major goals of the workshop are to experience, first hand with the performing artist, how the singing actor develops her craft and how these skills can be used as a valuable tool in a performance and in life.

Opera Exploration
By dividing the word "opera" into three distinct categories, the students will learn, through musical excerpts, why opera is an engaging and enduring art form. My colleague and I will perform samples of arias and music theatre pieces to illustrate how this medium expresses emotions, tells a story and utilizes movement that communicates to the audience. Between each presentation the children will be given a chance to interact with the performers and express their reaction to each piece.
