Fayetteville, N.C. –  The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County is excited to announce the return of the annual Cumberland County High School Juried Art Show. On display from March 6th through March 29th, the exhibit offers a glimpse into the diverse and innovative artistic expressions of our next generation.

Cumberland County Schools (CCS) visual arts educators thoughtfully selected student artwork created in a variety of mediums such as digital art, photography, 3D/sculpture, illustration, multimedia, and painting. A panel of jurors will review and score all work based on creativity, technique, and overall artistic merit. Twelve of the county's high schools will participate, including: Cape Fear, Douglas Byrd, E.E. Smith, Gray's Creek, Jack Britt, Massey Hill Classical, Pine Forest, Reid Ross Classical, Seventy-First, South View, Terry Sanford, and Westover.

In his first year as Director of Arts Education at CCS, Dr. Daniel McCloud is excited by the prospects of this exhibit for CCS art students. “This show provides students with a rare, firsthand look at the professional standards of the industry, proving that their creative ambitions are achievable career paths,” expressed Dr. McCloud.

“Art gives students a voice beyond words, turning emotions, questions, and dreams into something that can be seen and felt,” says Bob Pinson, President/CEO of the Arts Council. “Through creating and sharing their work, students discover not only their talent, but build confidence, empathy, and power to shape the world around them.”

The exhibit coincides with Governor Stein’s proclamation of March as “Arts In Our Schools Month.” The proclamation asserts that “all students participating in arts education courses benefit from the skills and processes developed through the arts and apply those skills in a variety of disciplines and settings no matter their intended career path.” Read the full proclamation here.

The Arts Council will also host its next Art After Hours event on March 19th from 6-8pm, featuring youth artists from our community.
