Service Description

The African American Dance Ensemble, founded in 1984, exemplifies their mission by coupling the very best of African dance with a real community-based educational agenda. AADE’s programming generally takes the form of projects that provide teaching or performing venues with expanded artistic techniques, competencies and reach out to underserved or neglected communities and expose audiences to an innovative new art form. AADE encourages interracial cooperation and cross-cultural understanding. To watch a performance of the ensemble is to witness a breathtaking blend of artistry, athleticism, dynamism, and explosive energy. No one who sees a performance remains a mere spectator; audiences share the spirit and accept the moral teachings. The African American Dance Ensemble provides a variety of performances suited to students K-12. Performances include 5-8 dancers and musicians clad in traditional attire. Each dance and spoken word activity follows an explanation of its origins. Performance Activities: Workshops, Lecture Demonstrations, Concerts (Special Concerts), Master Classes and Residencies. Performance Length: Lecture Demonstrations - 45 minutes, Concerts – 1 hour – 90 minutes. Residencies and Master Classes vary in length; Residencies culminate in a performance including residency students. Workshops: participant size: 45 maximum, concerts have no maximum capacity.
