Meet Adrienne Trego

One major way that the Arts Council impacts our community is through grants - grants to local schools, non-profit organizations and regional artists. Adrienne Trego manages our education and outreach programs and has the opportunity to see first-hand the impact of the arts in the lives of local citizens. An artist herself, Adrienne brings LOTS of creativity to the Arts Council. Get to know a little more about her and the role she plays “Behind the Red Doors.”

Most common question asked at work: Can I get a grant for this?

Favorite aspects of the job: I love working with kids, especially during exhibit tours. I am constantly amazed at how creative and perceptive kids truly are.

How would you describe yourself in three words? Creative, Passionate, Thoughtful.

Where are you from? The Keystone State - Pennsylvania!

What work have you done previously that either ties in with this job or is a total deviation from that path? Before I came to the Arts Council, I worked at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. There hasn't been much of a deviation in my adult life - it's been clear for a long time what I have wanted to do!

Favorite Artists: Oh that's a long list! The artist that really made me fall in love with visual art is Gustav Klimt, but since then my interest has been focused more towards contemporary and abstract expressionist artists, such as Gwen Murphy, Frank Stella and Franz Marc. And in terms of multi-disciplinary artists, most people know I have a pretty intense obsession with David Bowie.

Favorite Arts Council event: International Folk Festival

Who inspires you? And why? My family. I am so fortunate to have the most amazing family. We dig each other so much, my parents, then myself and my husband, and then my sister all moved South to be near each other!

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now? As a visual artist, I am always discovering new techniques in my work, many of which don't work out, but occasionally I find something that does! I love to work with resin, and I have discovered a few ways to paint within resin before it cures, which has resulted in some really interesting forms.

What’s your secret talent that no one knows about? I have hypermobility in my arms, and can bend my arms inward in a way that usually freaks people out. It's a fun party trick!
