Raising Bertie

MoonShadow Film Society
Tuesday, May 09 | 6:00 PM

Join us every 1st Tuesday of the month September – June as we screen amazing films from around the world! After the films we talk with filmmakers to get the inside scoop. Then join us in the Rainbow Room for a reception and time to chat with other film lovers!

Raising Bertie is an intimate portrait of three  boys coming of age in a rural African American-led community in Eastern North Carolina, Raising Bertie takes audiences deep into the emotional lives of three boys – Reginald “Junior” Askew, David “Bud” Perry, and Davonte “Dada” Harrell – over six-years. This powerful vérité film weaves the young men’s stories together as  they navigate unemployment, institutional racism, violence, first love, fatherhood, and estrangement from family.
