The Museum of the Cape Fear, in conjunction with Heroes Homecoming, invites all Cumberland County residents, churches and businesses to ring a bell 11 times on the 11:00 hour (am) on the 11th day of the 11th month, (November 11, 2018 at 11:00 am) to recognize the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day; the day that brought a cessation to the fighting during World War I. Armistice Day became Veterans Day in the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War.
In addition, there is a state-wide effort to get people to sign up and take part. The goal is for bells to ring in all 100 counties. It would be wonderful if Cumberland County rang the most bells and made the loudest bell sounds in the whole state? It is important to sign up so that we have a list of how many participate. By signing up, we can get a count of how many will take part in this special anniversary and publicize our unity as a community. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, or the name of your church, or business to get on the list.
Individual residents, wherever you are at 11:00 am on Nov. 11, 2018, let a bell sound in honor of Armistice Day. The veterans did their part, now let’s do ours by recognizing their efforts and sacrifices. Ring a bell 11 times at 11:00 am on November 11, 2018.
Churches, play or ring your church bells at 11:00 am. (Recordings count!)
Businesses, ask an employee, or two, to step out the front door at 11:00 am and ring a bell 11 times.
Don’t have a bell? There are several free bell-sounding apps you can download to your mobile device.
