The following artist opportunities are listed as a service to artists in our community. The Arts Council receives these notifications from many sources, and assumes no liability for their content. | FTCC Celebrating Excellence in the Visual Arts – Call for Art! |
Sponsored by Fayetteville Technical Community College
Eligibility: Open to all artists 18 years of age and older residing in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, New Hanover, Pender, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson and Scotland counties, Fort Bragg and Pope Field. Artist may submit a maximum of three, 2-dimensional original works of art. Fayetteville Technical Community College wishes to honor visual art by sponsoring a juried competition. Artwork accepted: oil, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, and mixed media. Art must be securely framed with no saw tooth hangers.
Entry Fee: $20 first entry ($15 for Arts Council members), $30 for 2-3 entries ($25 for Arts Council members). Entry fees are nonrefundable.
Awards: $1,000 first place, $500 second place and $250 third place (awarded by FTCC). First-place art will be used on promotional materials for the celebration of FTCC’s 50th Anniversary.
Juried Selection Process: Representatives from the arts community and from FTCC will make the selection for first, second and third places.
Timeline of Competition: Hand deliver works of art with entry fee to the Arts Council building, 301 Hay Street from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, February 16; 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Friday, February 17 and Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Exhibit will open at 7 p.m. on Fourth Friday, February 24. Winners will be announced at 8 pm. Works will remain on display through March 17. Art must be picked up between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday – Tuesday, March 19-20. Any artwork not picked up by April. 21, will be considered abandoned by the artist and disposed of by the Arts Council without recourse to the artist.

About "As You Like It": To escape death, the extraordinary Rosalind, her brave cousin Celia, and one of Shakespeare's funniest fools flee into the woods. There, in the bewitching Forest of Arden, they discover shepherds and aristocrats, country folk and lovers--and, ultimately, life, love, joy and freedom.

| Visual Art Exchange - Call for Art |
Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh is currently scheduling Community Exchange Exhibitions for 2011. VAE members can apply for solo exhibitions at Cameron Village Library, Duke Raleigh Hospital and the MJH Gallery at the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. These well-attended exhibitions are seen by over 200,000 people each year.

| Workshops on Improvisational Comedy |
Want to learn how to think quickly on your feet? Want to laugh until your belly aches and your brain hurts? If so, then the Horrible Folks Improvisational Comedy Workshops are for you!
Workshops will be held in the basement of the Arts Council building, 301 Hay Street, Fayetteville, NC, every Saturday, from 12-2 p.m. These workshops are fun and friendly and will help you learn the basics of improvisation. The workshops are free and open to the public.
Furthermore, if you're interested in performing improv comedy, Horrible Folks Productions will be looking for talented folks to be part of their upcoming comedy variety show, which will also feature video and live sketch comedy.
These workshops are for folks of all experience levels. So even if you've never done a lick of improv in your life, feel free to come out. We promise you'll have a fun and educational time.

ConsiderIt is an altruistic organization and online arts journal that presents original writing, visual media and music in order to raise funds for artists and select grassroots organizations. Every three months ConsiderIt hosts a contest for all writers, artists and musicians over 18 years of age. Finalists will be published on the Web site for three months and one winner will receive a cash award. Entry fee applies.
