Natural Embrace

“Natural Embrace,” a public work of art by sculptor Paul Hill, has apparently lived up to its name. In a community-wide survey conducted by the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County, “Natural Embrace” was voted the favorite of 15 year-long works of public art installed at multiple locations throughout downtown Fayetteville. The large metal sculpture depicts a spiraling Venus flytrap and is located at Person Street Plaza, across from the Cumberland County Courthouse. Now a fund-raising effort is underway to make “Natural Embrace” a permanent fixture in the community.

“The goal is to raise $20,000 through private and corporate donations – and the Arts Council will match up to $20,000 – to make “Natural Embrace” a permanent fixture in our community,” said Deborah Martin Mintz, Executive Director. The fund-raising drive kicks off on 4th Friday, February 23, and continues through March 31.

“Natural Embrace” is one of 17 total artworks now in downtown Fayetteville. The collective effort, called “Work In Progress,” is a temporary art exhibition gifted to the community through city and county funding, private donors and matched by Arts Council funding. The contributing artists hail from various parts of the United States.
