Thursday, August 08 | 6:30 PM
Airborne & Special Operations Museum map

Hear from modern day “Monuments Women” MAJ (R) Corine (Cori) Wegener and Dr. Laurie Rush describe their incredible work in rescuing the Iraqi Jewish Archive from the flooded basement of Saddam Hussein’s military intelligence headquarters in 2003, the dramatic story featured in the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum's new special exhibit: Discovery and Recovery: Preserving Iraqi Jewish Heritage (through September 22, 2019). MAJ (R) Wegener and Dr. Rush will detail the policies, diplomacy, process, and challenges in transporting these culturally significant documents from Iraq to the United States for preservation at the National Archives, and explain how the U.S. military's long history of safeguarding and preserving cultural property supports Civil Affairs' goals and mission success.
