On Friday, February 23, at 11am Ms. Patty Kelly Stevens and her family will be at the Airborne & Special Operations Museum to speak about one of the greatest raids during World War II, the Los Banos Raid. She spent three years as a prisoner at the Los Banos camp. Ms. Stevens will also be available to answer any questions and to donate a 48-star American flag to the museum that flew over the Los Banos camp.
Stevens was 17 when she, her mother and her younger brother were forced out of their home in Manila. The Japanese began bombing the city the same day as Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941, the two places where Japan felt America was too close. Gen. Douglas MacArthur declared Manila an open city before it was captured by the Japanese.
