2 pm

Kick off you Black History Month celebrations at the Museum of the Cape Fear as we present Dancing Stories with April C. Turner. April C. Turner uses dances, stories and songs from traditional West African culture to affirm community building concepts such as working together, integrity, and perseverance. The meanings and uses of the songs and dances are demonstrated in a fun, high-energy, inspiring journey. The audience will have fun when the language Wolof, a West African language, is introduced to them. Together, Turner and the audience will explore the language of African dance symbols. Dancing Stories explores African folklore and demonstrates ways that African stories can bring a community together. At the end of the presentation, audience members are invited to participate in playing music together as a community. Maurice Durufle - Requiem and Quatre Motets, Op. 10

Cumberland Oratorio Singers

7:30 p.m., Holy Trinity Episcopal Church (1601 Raeford Rd., Fayetteville)

Durufle's Requiem and Quartre Motets have long been standard works in the world of choral literature.  His style demonstrates a personal reading of the Requiem texts in stark contrast to the fiery setting by Berlioz and Verdi.  Instead, he channels Faure in creating a more reflective work representing the idea of comfort, hope, and faith.  In addition and fresh from their very first European tour, we are proud to highlight a performance by the Methodist University Chorale!
