Poetry Alive!

About the Artist

For over 30 years, Poetry Alive! has been presenting high-energy poetry shows for audiences of all ages.  Poetry Alive! presents verse as theatre, transforming poems into scripts and audience members into fellow actors.  The result is a non-stop tour de force of words with a hint of sorrow, a dash of silliness, and every emotion in between.

Poetry Alive!’s high energy assembly shows are presented by a team of two professional performers.  A typical 35-50 minute show includes 20-25 poems tailored to fit the age and interests of the audience. The poems, memorized and performed theatrically are found in textbooks and anthologies.  The performances are entertaining and participatory, which leaves audiences with a greater appreciation and understanding of poetry.  Even the most jaded student will leave thinking “poetry is cool.”

The residency provides 2 artists working with students each day ,which allows for individualized, professional coaching and support. Students are empowered through analysis of text, and learn valuable presentation skills as well as expert tricks and tips for combating shyness and stage fright. Students also make cross-curriculum connections that encourage creative problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration.
